The Midwest is the perfect place to grow up. It gives you a sense of humility that is a little harder to come by on the coasts. We're used to explaining to people that our town is probably a place they've never heard of. We know the looks we get when someone says "Isn't it all just corn fields?" And we know the joy of enlightening someone to the fact that yes, there are beaches in Chicago. Nice beaches, actually. People get all sorts of things wrong about the Midwest. 

They assume that we're bumpkins who have never flown in a plane before. Little do they know planes are actually all around… wait I mean plains. Same difference. People who aren't from the Midwest might think that we have no geographic natural beauty. Those people have never been to the Indiana Dunes. And some non-Midwesterners might assume that we don't even know what memes are. Little do they know.
